Numbers 14-15, and Psalm 90

12 Spies report

Recap: After being told from the Lord, “I will give you the land…” the men still made their own conclusion.  Wait, let me get this straight.  This generation saw the Lord battle 10 Egyptian gods, part the Red Sea, provide manna, speak to Moses, provide water…..and they think He cannot handle walking into a promise He has been making for 500 years!

Chapter 14: The voices of 10 men influenced the opinions of the ones listening.  (Stop and PLEASE think about that)  Complaining and negatively effect those listening, and could change their actions.  When the Lord looks down on you,  who are you?

  • The 10 men
  • The group listening and agreeing without first hand knowledge
  • Caleb or Joshua

God is going to strike all of them with a plague and start over, but Moses loves Him so much and says

15 If you put all these people to death, leaving none alive, the nations who have heard this report about you will say, 16 ‘The Lord was not able to bring these people into the land he promised them on oath, so he slaughtered them in the wilderness.’

God agrees to not kill the people outright and harm His reputation but will keep them in the wilderness until they all die and can be replaced by their children.  He refuses to reward rebellion and lack of trust.  If He did, it would send a wrong message to the world about his character and holiness.

Last month I said I look for something new I have never read before and when I do it hits me hard…it is 14:20!  I think I get so wrapped up in the story that only Caleb and Joshua from this generation will enter the Promise Land,  I glazed over something so important

“I have forgiven them…Nevertheless….”

So much to think about today….

Chapter 15:

I have to get ready for church, so I will pull out one paragraph: Tassels.  I love that we are told to have visual reminders to remember God’s commandments and promises.    For those of you who don’t know me, I live in the South, the “land flowing with scriptures painted on wood”.

  • Reminder or just decorative?  Walk around your house and find a scripture somewhere and really think about how much you trust it! Are you the 2 or the 10?
  • AND if you do not have anything like this in your house then you need to go to Hobby Lobby some time this week!  Ha!  You like how I made that a need not a want. JK

Psalm 90- Click here

So evidently the Psalms are not just from David.  90-106 Are from the prayers of Moses.

Since you are all killing me with quietness: I want you to find the scripture in this Psalm that spoke to you today and note it in comments.

  1. Psalm 90: 1 and 2, Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever hast thou formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.

  6. Ok…so the Lord seems a little rash and hasty in these lines when the people start to rebel. (I certainly don’t blame him) i just had this you think He was really thinking about killing them with a plague and tarnishing His reputation or was this a little about Moses and his faith in interceding for the people? I just can’t see G♡d doing that…what are your thoughts? I’ve had half a cup of coffee also….

  7. And my favorite part of the psalm was the last verse, “And may the Lord our G♡d show us his approval and make our efforts successful. Yes, make our efforts successful!” I like how he said it twice and used an exclamation mark. I’m sure he didn’t actually use an exclamation mark but it’s like he’s really excited about getting out of this former misery and moving on. His patience and faith is astounding… #loveMoses
