Joel Overview

Introduction to Joel | Evidence Unseen

Like most of the Prophecy books they will have a dual message.  I call it is “Split Screen” News cast

We talked about the difference in Minor Prophet verse Major Prophet books a long time ago.  A minor prophet book is not less important, it is separated by size.  This is a 3 chapter book, but with a major message.  The theme is “The Day of the Lord”.  The book of Joel tells us about Judah’s rescue from captivity and her restoration but it equally details the prophetic message of the Final Judgement in Revelation.

Joel uses the plagues in Exodus and projects them into the Tribulation.  How cool is that!  What is important to keep in mind is just like in Exodus, the plagues were orchestrated by God (not Moses) so will the coming judgement.

Quick post because I was struggling…I thought you might be too. If not…KUDOS!

(Post #2 of the day) There will be one more after I write the Joel Overview for tomorrow.  Suddenly,  as we get back to the “new normal” we find ourselves busy!  What doesn’t help is we were reading a very hard book!  I felt “dry” this month and not motivated.  If you read my post this morning I am feeling refreshed with the Living water.  So if you fell off in Ezekiel (or before) here are some videos if you choose to watch them.  If you just want to jump in with Daniel it will be OK!

Here is a view of the rest of the month:  We END the Old Testament.  Start thinking of that friend you want to invite to read the New Testament with you and make an accountability partner.  (you don’t want me….I am brutal!  Just kidding, I am not!)

Ezekiel 46-48

Chapter 47:

Then he led me back to the bank of the river. When I arrived there, I saw a great number of trees on each side of the river. He said to me, “This water flows toward the eastern region and goes down into the Arabah, where it enters the Dead Sea. When it empties into the sea, the salty water there becomes fresh.

As I was reading I tried to picture what the River of Life looked like.  If the Lord our Savior is Living Water, which one do you  picture?

The Bible is not about how God view’s us, it is about how we view Him.  He is Holy.  The other day Jennifer asked why the East gate?  She jumped in the reading after the tabernacle was built. When the tabernacle and the temple were arranged God specifically said that the tribe of Judah would sit at the East gate: The entrance.  The Messiah comes from the tribe of Judah.

John 10:9  I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture.

When I read chapter 48 I remembered the good ole days of us reading in the winter about the 12 tribes of Israel.    Let’s recall: Jacob (later changed to Israel) had 12 sons (and a daughter).  The 12 sons all became a tribe.

Let’s have some fun and see what we can remember:

13 This is what the Sovereign Lord says: “These are the boundaries of the land that you will divide among the twelve tribes of Israel as their inheritance, with two portions for Joseph. 14 You are to divide it equally among them. Because I swore with uplifted hand to give it to your ancestors, this land will become your inheritance.

  1. Why will Joseph get a double portion?
  2. Why does Judah receive the Blessing of the Covenant? (Typically it goes to the first born).  Judah is #4!
  3. Why do the Levites get 4 allotments one North, East, South and West?
  4. What is the name of the New City???

“And the name of the city from that time on will be:

the Lord is there.”

We end Ezekiel today:
